Captain John C. Star, Doctor Anna Medusa and Sergeant Pulpo Kalamares are minuscule marine creatures with giant Napoleon complexes. Their mission is to warm up the planet, melt the ice caps and drown the land so that the ‘plankton invasion’ can begin. Except that they are not very well informed, not very organised and most of all, not very big.
In each episode, the trio embark on a mission based on an environmental theme. All the facts are explained by accurate yet amusing 2D inserts. But the team’s many misinterpretations of the world and objects around them often doom them to comical failure.
Plankton Invasion tackles the subject of global warming from a humorous and innovative point of view. In light of this, the series has received the ‘United Nations Decade for Education for Sustainable Development’ label from UNESCO.
Plankton Invasion also adheres to the guidelines of Ecoprod, a partnership whose objective is to make audiovisual and film production more environmentally responsible. The carbon impact of the series is mentioned in the closing credits. Also a first in the animation industry.
Nominated for a Pulcinella Award in the category "Best TV Series for Teens" in 2012.
UNESCO has granted the TV series the label of the "United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development", which is a first for an animation TV series.
